800 Diamond Series

One material sums up our quest for perfection in sound

reproduction more than any other.

Diamond.

It’s the ultimate tweeter material – and the magic ingredient in our flagship 800 Series Diamond. It’s part of the reason why 800 Series speakers have become legendary among professional recording studios and serious sound enthusiasts alike. And now, for the first time, you can hear the incredible precision and clarity of diamond in every speaker in the range. The very best just got even better. And perfection just got even closer.

805 Diamond

You asked for it. And now you’ve got it. The 805 Diamond is an industry world-first – the only speaker of its size and type to incorporate true studio-grade technology in the form of a diamond dome tweeter. Experience remarkable, lifelike sound from a discreet speaker that fits almost anywhere.

Diamond dome tweeters have long been considered an exclusive luxury in the world of audio – a refinement to be reserved only for the most expensive, studio-sized loudspeakers. No longer. The 805 Diamond is nothing less than a revolution in speaker design: the first speaker of its size and at this price point to come with a diamond tweeter. Because studio-quality sound shouldn’t just be for studios.

Small but perfectly formed, the 805 Diamond will fit almost everywhere. Tucked away on a bookshelf or positioned on its specially designed stand, it’s perfect for smaller listening spaces. And it will serve equally well as the rear channels of a home theatre system. With 805 Diamond, you can now bring superb, breath-takingly realistic sound to places you never thought possible.

Specification

804 Diamond

As wonderfully versatile as its smaller brother the 805 Diamond, the elegant, floorstanding 804 Diamond has an even more commanding acoustic presence, thanks to a true three-way design incorporating two Rohacell® bass units, an FST™ midrange and a diamond dome tweeter delivering pin-sharp clarity all the way up the frequency range. A brilliant all-round performer for any occasion.

The hypothetical perfect tweeter is one that balances infinite stiffness with near-zero density. Only one material on earth comes close to matching those properties: diamond. Thanks to modern scientific techniques, we can grow diamond, like a crystal, to form the optimum tweeter dome shape. The result is truly exceptional sound at high frequencies. And it comes as standard with every speaker in the range, including the 804 Diamond.

For a long time, we thought our Kevlar® midrange cones couldn’t get any better – but then we came up with the fixed suspension transducer (FST for short). FST enhances the properties of Kevlar by acting like a circular shock absorber around the cone, absorbing the sound-smudging bending waves that travel outwards to the perimeter. A midrange driver never sounded cleaner, or more responsive.

SPECIFICATIONS

803 Diamond

The 803 Diamond might look almost as imposing as the 802 Diamond, but thanks to its smaller footprint and more traditional cabinet design, it will fit more comfortably into a home environment. With three massive 7” Rohacell® bass drivers, it delivers almost as much bass as the 802 Diamond, filling even the largest of domestic rooms with rich, stunningly lifelike sound.

The design and proportions of the top two speakers in the range are derived at for sound acoustic reasons – but understandably, not everyone wants the visual disruption that such a radical piece of furniture can create in a home environment. The 803 Diamond takes up less space and is arguably easier on the eye – but thanks to its three bass drivers, it generates a sound that’s almost a match for its bigger brothers.

For the 800 Series Diamond range, we’ve refined the science of magnet motor design to a fine art. Each of the 803 Diamond’s three bass drivers are powered by a dual magnet motor system, creating a more symmetrical magnetic field and reducing harmonic distortion. Meanwhile a unique quad magnet design keeps the tweeter running cool and smooth, even at the highest frequencies.

802 Diamond

If you’re looking for a speaker with the power, clarity and presence of the mighty 800 Diamond, but your listening area can’t quite accommodate its studio-sized proportions, the 802 Diamond is the answer. Retaining the groundbreaking spherical head design of its bigger brother, it’s the closest you’ll get to true studio sound at home.

While the slimmer dimensions of the 802 Diamond make it an easier fit for living spaces, the basic design retains nearly all of the features of the top-of-the-range 800 Diamond, including the teardrop form of the midrange head. Moulded from Marlan®, a synthetic, mineral filled resin, this granite-hard enclosure is sprayed with seven coats of lacquer and polished by hand until it's as smooth as glass.

As with all of the speakers in the range, the 802 Diamond features our legendary Nautilus™ tapering tube drive unit technology. First pioneered on our trailblazing Nautilus speaker, the tubes work like horns in reverse, minimising colouration by soaking up excess sound energy from the back of the driver. So that all that emerges from the front is the most fully formed, focused and pristine sound.

800 Diamond

The speaker of choice for the world’s most demanding recording studios, and a legend among serious sound enthusiasts everywhere, the 800 Diamond is the top speaker in the range – and very probably the finest speaker you will ever hear. Quite simply, the ultimate loudspeaker.

You’ll find the flagship 800 Series loudpseaker at work wherever exceptional sound quality really matters, the world-famous Abbey Road Studios in London to Skywalker Sound, the Californian studio where Hollywood puts music to movies. For sheer, unadulterated realism, these professionals say it’s the best there is. And who are we to argue?

The iconic design of the flagship 800 Series Diamond speaker, with drive units housed in separate, curvaceous enclosures, has its roots back in our design for the very first 800 Series speaker - the Matrix 801. Back then we discovered that isolating the units created a much purer, more balanced sound. The same principle applies today.

Bowers And Wilkins XT Series

All things comes to an end. XT range was discontinued. CM8 considered the best alternative.

XT 2

Either on a bookshelf, floor stand or fixed to a wall, the versatile XT2 performs brilliantly both in a stereo set up and providing the front or rear channels in an AV system. That’s down to ingenious cabinet design and cutting-edge acoustic technology, refined and developed for our most advanced reference speakers.

The XT2 features a Nautilus™ tube-loaded aluminium dome tweeter, positioned on top of the speaker cabinet for better image stability. A single Kevlar® cone driver handles the midrange and the bass. As with all XT speakers, the body is formed from a single, seamless piece of extruded aluminium, creating an immensely rigid, stable enclosure and reducing cabinet coloration almost to zero.

You have the option of placing the XT2 on our specially designed FS-XT floor stand, or fixing it to the wall with an adjustable wave-bracket that comes included with the speaker. The XT2 is available in two finishes: natural brushed aluminum, and a stylish gloss black.

XT8

As either the front speaker in an AV system or in a conventional stereo set-up, the top-of-the-range, floor-standing XT8 delivers unrivalled performance with a sleek aesthetic that’s a match for any interior style, contemporary or traditional.

The XT8 is a true three-way speaker boasting a Nautilus™ tube-loaded aluminium dome tweeter, a Kevlar® FST midrange driver, and twin composite paper/Kevlar® cone bass drivers. The bass units provide low-frequency bandwidth and power handling in abundance, giving the XT8 a real sense of scale and dynamics. As with all XT speakers, the body is formed from a single, seamless piece of extruded aluminium, creating an immensely rigid, stable enclosure and reducing cabinet coloration almost to zero.

Just like our reference 800 Series speakers, the XT8’s tweeter is positioned on top of the cabinet, providing wider sound dispersion, better image stability and improved phase integration with the midrange driver. The purity of the tweeter’s signal is preserved with a first-order crossover using just a single filtering component, hand-picked after exhaustive listening tests.

Bowers and Wilkins CM Series

CM Series

CM1

The CM1 may be ideal for smaller spaces, but don’t let the size of this bookshelf speaker fool you. Thanks to the quality of its construction, it’s capable of producing a sound that’s a match for its bigger brothers.

The partnership of a 130mm Kevlar® cone bass/midrange driver with a Nautilus™ tube-loaded aluminium dome tweeter helps the speaker handle musical detail with ease across the full frequency spectrum. Despite the size of the speaker, the CM1’s bass is always deep and under control thanks to the CM Series’ magnet and voice coil system technology, which keeps distortion to a minimum.

CM5

On a bookshelf or a speaker stand, the CM5 will give you a wonderfully big, expansive sound even if you don’t have the floorspace to match.

It’s a slightly larger speaker than its sibling the CM1, with even higher sensitivity and power handling, and better bass extension.  It partners a sizable 165mm Kevlar® cone bass/midrange driver with a Nautilus™ tube-loaded aluminium dome tweeter, capable of keeping high frequencies crisp and sharp all the way up to 50kHz and beyond.

CM 8

The CM8 is an elegantly proportioned, slimmed down version of the award-winning CM9. A true three-way loudspeaker that will appeal to discerning customers who demand the very best sound quality, but have limited space in which to achieve it.
Like all the models in the CM Series, the CM8 uses crossovers of remarkable simplicity and quality, so what you hear is that much closer to the sound of the original recording. In its functional perfection and understated elegance, it’s nothing less than a masterpiece. Pure and simple.
All CM Series speakers come with chrome driver trims. Grilles attach magnetically, so there are no unsightly grille-mounting features to spoil the clean lines of the speaker’s façade. For the finish, you can choose either one of two real-wood veneers in Rosenut or Wengé, or the highly polished Gloss Black.

CM9

If it’s hard to put the sound of the CM9 into words, that’s just as well. This top-of-the-range floorstanding speaker will fill even the largest domestic spaces with music so richly detailed, and so startlingly lifelike, that it will leave you speechless.

The three-way CM9 delivers truly commanding bass with the aid of twin 165mm paper/Kevlar® cone drive units. An FST® driver, with its characteristic compression surround supporting the outer edge of the distinctive Kevlar® cone, is specially developed for outstanding midrange performance. The CM9’s Nautilus™ tube-loaded aluminium dome tweeter keeps high frequencies crisp and sharp all the way up to 50kHz and beyond.

Bowers And Wilkins 600 Series

The B&W 686

The 686 is the baby of the 600 Series bunch, but doesn’t lack for the technologies and features to deliver outrageously good sound in smaller room settings. Mount a pair on a wall or stand, or simply sit them on a shelf or table for a compact stereo system or as surround speakers in a home theatre set-up.

The 130mm diameter Kevlar® cone bass/midrange is based on a tried-and-trusted B&W design, but its new fixed centre bullet helps to smooth the response in upper frequencies. Also, by setting the bass/midrange closer to the tweeter than in equivalent earlier speakers, we have improved the integration and vertical dispersion of sound from the two units. The
Nautilus™ tube-loaded, aluminium dome tweeter, featuring a new surround material to improve spaciousness and imaging, adds needle-sharp top end all the way to 50kHz and beyond.

The improvements to the drive units in the new 600 Series make it possible, for the first time, to introduce a minimalist crossover to the range. The use of components that are fewer in number but higher in quality – hand-picked in exhaustive listening tests – reduces the degradation of the signal significantly. So, whether you’re enjoying hi-fi or home cinema, what you hear is that much closer to what was recorded.

The B&W 685

For hi-fi or home cinema in small to medium-sized rooms, you need a loudspeaker that doesn’t take up floor area, but whose sound can still command the space. You’ll find the 685, which can sit on a shelf, table, stand or wall-mount, an inspired choice.
